Homemade (not from a can) Sloppy Joes

16 Jan

Would you believe my hubby thought Sloppy Joes came from a can!? It took me a long time to convince him that, just because something is sold that way, it doesn’t mean that it is actually meant to be eaten! Sloppy Joes are soo easy to make and it can all be done in one pot too – so there’s minimal mess. How can it be any easier eating meat from a can!? Gross!! This is a huge crowd pleaser in our house and even our pickiest eater chows down on it. Pair it up with some delicious fresh bread and a nice Dill Pickle and you’re all set!

Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joes:

Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 cup ketchup
4 TBSP water
2 TBSP brown sugar
2 tsp Worcestershire
2 tsp yellow mustard
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp salt
bread or burger buns

Here’s all you have to do:
1. Brown the beef and drain off the grease.
2. Stir in the rest of ingredients – all of them – just dump them right in there and mix them up. Bring it to a boil.
3. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 30-40 minutes. Just give it a stir every now and then
4. Enjoy!!

Come on now….that was easy enough for even the Hubbs to cook up!

I really want to try this one! Do you have a suitable replacement for the worcestershire sauce , it contains anchovies, or death in our house. lol

A substitute for Worcestershire!? I would try a mixture of A1 Sauce with maybe a tiny bit of Soy Sauce to give it that salty tang maybe? It would take some playing around to get the ratios and tastes quite right. Worcestershire is a huge ingredient in our house – I’ve never tried to replace it with anything. I’ll think on it and see what I can come up with.
