This is a quickie I like to keep on hand for those freezing mornings that simply DEMAND a warm filling breakfast in your belly with only minimal time. You can of course buy those pre-made, store-bought, ready to go packets but they are infinitely more expensive and again have a ton of fillers and additives that you can avoid by doing it yourself. When you make it in bulk ahead of time you can just scoop it out as needed and it’s just as fast as one of those store bought packets too! It’s a win-win!
Dry Mix: Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal
2 cups quick oats (grind them up in the blender or food processor)
2 cups quick oats (leave them whole)
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 TBSP maple flavoring (it’s a liquid you can find next to the vanilla extracts and such)
1 1/2 TSP salt
2 TSP cinnamon
1/2 TSP nutmeg
1. Combine the sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and maple flavoring in a bowl. Stir it very very very well. That maple flavoring is going to want to clump up little balls of the powders and not distribute evenly – really concentrate on getting it evenly mixed, a mixer is helpful.
2. Add in the regular quick oats and the ground oats. Stir well and store in an air tight container for up to 2 years.
